about
True love always requires some loss of control. Rational thought is tossed out the window as the heart is led on a wild goose chase. Maybe, some years down the line, you find something mutually beneficial - even healthy. But the mind wanders back to a time of more naivety, when love was as good a reason as any for rash decisions.
It is with this mindset the boys behind Gauss Gun ventured to Worcester to produce their first recording in 3 years. A lot had changed in that time - unis were graduated from and left - but the beating heart in this band had just kept growing stronger. With Harry Shiels in the control room, this indie rock duo welded a creation indebted to '70s glam rock (Mud, T. Rex) and modern indie opuses (Car Seat Headrest).
It is an ode to many things and people in singer/songwriter WIll Costello's life. He hopes they combine to capture a feeling you can share in.
lyrics
Let the records show, I was as loved-up as could be
I wasn't loved by her, per se - oh well, we'll see
Business came and went despite some personal mistreatment
They left me lying in the streets when she came by
There's nothing to forgive you for
So what you doing standing there?
My fault for thinking you had more
And yours to think I wouldn't care
And so I'll travel the whole wide world
Because I'm fed of the English girls
They have a way of expressing their thoughts
That I've heard a million times before
You had vanity, true insanity
You made me weak
And what's normality
More than banality?
I'm up simplicity creek
You had vanity, true insanity
You made me weak
And what's normality
More than banality?
I'm up simplicity creek
I'm up simplicity creek (ooooooo)
The Sun came up and I discovered her in bed (wow)
There was a path to that she kindly helped me to retread
I don't know why every time this happens I forget it
What I must have done would come in handy, don't you think?
There's nothing to inform you of
So what you doing in my head?
My fault for thinking you had love
When I could only get the brush instead
So I'll straddle the whole wide world
To get my mind off all the English girls
They have a way of expressing their fears
I'll never hear in a million years
You had vanity, true insanity
You made me weak
And what's normality
More than banality?
I'm up simplicity creek
You had vanity, true insanity
You made me weak
And what's normality
More than banality?
I'm up, up, up simplicity creek
I saw security as something to be won
You've got a purity I can't get enough of, hon
One step backwards and two steps down
You know you're the classiest bird left in town
You had vanity, true insanity
You made me weak
And what's normality
More than banality?
I'm up simplicity creek
You had vanity, true insanity
You made me weak
And what's normality
More than banality?
I'm up simplicity creek (yeah)
